Yorkville College has designed a new Dental Chairside Assistant program that meets today's challenges
in the Health Care professions. Job prospects for Dental Chairside Assistants have never been better.
The number of dentists is growing and chairside assistants supporting both hygienists and dentists
will face a growing employment market an employment market growing faster than average for all health
care occupations. In the dental industry, population growth and greater retention of natural teeth are
stimulating demand for more dentists and more diverse dental services.
In today's health care market, the Dental Assistant will be expected to take on more responsibilities,
both clinical and administrative. Within the program at Yorkville College, you will acquire all of the
skills and competencies to maximize your potential within the health care industry. You will experience
the use of new and leading edge equipment and instrum entation. Our instructors will be approaching
the program from an integrated learning system where chairside skills and radiology techniques will become
second nature to you.
Program Design:
The program delivers all of dental assisting theory and practice. There is a student workbook to enhance
learning. There is a complete laboratory service to practice manipulating amalgams and other dental materials.
The text has complete chapter outlines, objectives and key terms, colour illustrations, photos, tables and chapter
summaries to facilitate student learning. Our graduates will be HARP certified as part of the graduation requirements.
Topics Covered:
- Review of dental specialties including endodontics, oral and maxillofacial, orthodontics, periodontics, and prosthodontics.
- History of the Dental Profession including Basic Dental Sciences.
- General Anatomy and Physiology
- Embryology, histology and tooth morphology;
- Preclinical Dental skills, including infection control, asepsis and management of hazardous materials
- Clinical Dental Procedures, including chairside assisting, chairside instruments and tray systems and anesthetics
- Pharmacology and Microbiology
- Oral Pathology
- Dental Materials, including restorative and laboratory materials
- Dental Radiography Emergency procedures, client care, management of pain and anxiety
- Dental Office Management including scheduling clients, client data recording, ethics and jurisprudence
- Basic computer skills, including Word &Excel
- Career Search Techniques,& communication skills
- Practicum
