Graduation Requirements
Students having achieved a minimum 60% or better average per module will be recommended for their
diploma. An overall grade of 85% and above is awarded an “Honors” designation.

Program Overview
The student's development in the 22 week program is enhanced by projects that hone
individual skills within the modular time frame. Learning at Yorkville College includes the student's pursuit of
knowledge using a variety of technologies, real learning events and experiences. Through teaching excellence and
diversified learning experiences, students graduate from Yorkville College well prepared to make the transition into
the job market.
Program Design
Keyboarding:
Speed and accuracy to 25-45 words per minute. Centering documents; setting tabs; punctuation and
capitalization of proper words and phrases; typing letters, memos, simple letters and invitations. Speed,
accuracy, typing long documents, reports, minutes and proposals. Typing envelopes, application forms, labels
and numeric.
Microsoft Suite:
Windows Fundamentals - Vista :
Understanding of the Windows Vista operating system through experimentation, exploration and planning ahead.
Microsoft Word : Learning features useful for projects, business and personal use. Expanding knowledge through learning skills
needed to incorporate the web into the work .
Microsoft Excel :
Basic and advanced activities to develop various documents such as budgets, marketing and sales reports,
forecasts and statistical tables.
Microsoft Powerpoint :
Successfully produce visually attractive and effective business and personal presentations.
Microsoft Outlook :
Manage messages and appointments to build efficient communication while maintaining personal and business
contacts.
Business Communications:
To provide an overview of business communications; its effects on the business environment; introduce
effective verbal and thorough written communication. To produce a variety of written business correspondences
using appropriate format and to use telephone/fax to communicate effectively. To produce effective business
letters, memos and reports. To communicate effectively both verbally and when writing documents.
Computer Introduction:
Roles and functions of the microcomputer maximize the computer's resources through operating systems.
Know the booting system, function keys, commands, drives and files management. Understand desktop features,
taskbar and configuration and principles of computer processing, hardware and software. Use the file
management to: organize files, folders and disk, produce mouse and keyboard adjustments. Perform disk
cleanup and disk defragmenter. Personalize the desktop to perform quality effects.
Word Processing:
Editing and printing files: save, copying, moving, deleting, and inserting characters. Maximize the computer's
resources through Windows Operating System. Develop the levels of an office Typist using word processing
software; creation of business documents and written correspondences. Produce professional business
documents: through efficient editing, proofreading and formatting. Use header and footer, drawing tools and
templates. Produce documents by importing/exporting to other software applications.
Book keeping and Financial Accounting :
Learn the core components of bookkeeping and financial accounting within the workplace. Engage in activities
which will emphasize analysis and documentation of business transactions using the rules of double-entry
bookkeeping. In addition to the basic accounting principles, you will be exposed to the processes of adjusting
journal entries as well as preparation of basic financial statements.
Simply Accounting:
Learn the basics of computerized accounting and accounting software by becoming familiar and utilizing Simply
Accounting 2007. Explore and engage in activities using accounting principles by beginning with a company file
and entering transactions for general ledger, accounts receivables, accounts payable, inventory and managing
capital expenses.
Office Skills:
Learn how to best maintain the productivity, flow and smoothness of the operations within a business as well
as learn how to evaluate situations to be able to assist and offer improved strategies and techniques to create an
efficient and effective workplace.
Project Management Fundamentals:
Learn and understand the processes, tools, techniques and areas of knowledge needed to successfully complete
projects and be a more valuable project team member.
